Cause of death: the autopsy
The December 2026 change only turns old-style sending off by default; admins can switch it back on, and the final removal date will only be announced in the second half of 2027 after slipping three times. Microsoft's own High Volume Email costs about $42 per million recipients, SMTP2GO is free up to 1,000 a month, CMRelay already sells this exact relay at $9.99 per device, and the checker already exists free in the Exchange admin center. A shared relay also shares one sender reputation across every customer. NO-GO at about 85%.
The numbers
None. It was never built, so there are no visitors, sales or ad spend to count. It died on paper, which is the cheapest place to die.
Could rise again if
If Microsoft announces a hard removal date.
