Cause of death: the autopsy
Reddit's API now needs manual approval, but 5+ Reddit actors on Apify already had over 700 monthly users each (the leader 7,518), and when Reddit's .json feed closed in May 2026 the gap was refilled fast. Reddit sued SerpApi, Oxylabs and Perplexity over scraping in October 2025.
