Cause of death: the autopsy
Re-reading the validator's own 261-store scan, the stores with a live tag nobody will fix were about 1-2%, not 18%: most 'at-risk' tags were already dead or belonged to maintained apps whose vendors offer a one-click fix, cutting the reachable pool to about 15k stores. A free outside-in checker and a free command-line tool already named the deadline. Six weeks after Shopify's similar August 2026 checkout-script switch-off, four fix apps (one at $49 one-time) all showed no reviews. Score fell from 17 to 11/25; base 12-month revenue about $1-3k.
